A Rothschild Foundation (Hanadiv) Europe támogatásával Könyvtárunk Kaufmann-gyűjteménye két kiemelkedően értékes kéziratának restaurálására került sor az Országos Széchényi Könyvtár műhelyében. Az 1310-ben feltételezhetően Délnyugat-Németországban készült, gazdagon illusztrált úgynevezett második Kaufmann Misné Tóra a kora középkori könyvművészet kiemelkedő alkotása.

Szerény megjelenésében merőben különbözik tőle az A 494 jelzetű kézirat, amely az olasz zsidó közösség számára a 16-17. században készült héber nyelvű leveleket, illetve levélmintákat tartalmaz. A kis kézirat a gubacstinta-marások miatt teljes pusztulás előtt állt, de sikerült megmenteni, sőt a restaurálás során előbukkant eredeti pergamen kötése is.

Thanks to a generous support from the Rothschild Foundation (Hanadiv) Europe our Library managed to carry out the conservation of two exceptionally valuable manuscripts from the Kaufmann collection in the laboratories of the National Széchényi Library. The richly illuminated second Kaufmann Mishneh Torah probably copied in Southwest Germany in 1310 is among the outstanding examples of mediaeval book art.

Equally important is the other manuscript despite its humble appearance, as it contains letters and letter samples written in Hebrew in the 16^th and early 17^th centuries for the Italian Jewish community. This small manuscript was on the verge of complete destruction because severe ink corrosion. The conservators not only managed to save it, but also found the original parchment binding.
